6        FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR SC/ST/OEC/ MINORITY STUDENTS (AS PER UGC GUIDELINES)

6.1    Fellowship Equivalent to UGC/GATE for SC/ST/OEC Students Studying in ME/M.Phil/M.Tech./Ph.D/M.Litt

 

There is a special scheme for SC/ST students who couldn’t qualify UGC/GATE Exam studying in ME/M.Phil/ M.Tech/ .Ph.D/M.Litt courses. Government releases 75% of the latest UGC/GATE  rates of Scholarships to those SC/ST/OEC Students.

6.2     Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme (RGNFS) for SC/ST Candidates

The objective is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students belonging to SC/ST to pursue advanced studies leading to M.Phil/Ph.D (full time) in Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences.

·                The candidates should have a Post Graduate degree in the concerned subject.

·                 The registration for M.Phil/Ph.D should be recognized by University/Institute/College.

·                                The tenure of fellowship is initially for two years under the RGNF scheme. 

·                Before expiry of this period, the work of the Fellows will be evaluated by the Committee of three members comprising of Head of the Department, Supervisor and one outside expert.

·                 If the research work is satisfactory, the recommendations of the Committee shall be submitted to the UGC for upgradation to the level of RGNSRF.  Website : www.ugc.ac.in

 

 

6.3     Post Doctoral Fellowship to Unemployed Women Candidates and SC/ST/OBC/PH Candidates

        UGC will invite application for this fellowship in every year.  The objective of this award is to provide an opportunity to carry out the advanced studies and research in Science, Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian Universities and Colleges.

6.4     Award of Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students

This is a UGC sponsored scholarship. Every year there is notification for this scholarship. The objective of this award is to enable the minority students to undertake research in Arts, Science, Commerce and Engineering/Technology.  Number of Fellowship sanctioned to different states will be available from their notification.

6.5.   Research Award under Post Doctoral Fellowship

The University Grants Commission will invite applications every alternate year for 100 slots of “Research Award under Post Doctoral Fellowship” in Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences and Engineering & Technology. The objectives of the scheme are to provide opportunities to regularly appointed permanent teachers of Universities/ Institutions/Colleges to pursue research in their area(s) of specialization for a period of two years (extendable by one year in exceptional cases) without undertaking any research guidance.

6.6         Post     Doctoral Fellowship for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Candidates

The objective of the Scheme is to provide an opportunity to  SC/ST candidates  to undertake advance studies and research in Science, Engineering & Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges on full time basis. Selection will be made on the basis of merit by an Expert Committee.

The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows:

Modified Financial Scheme

HRA: Post Doctoral Fellowship provided with accommodation in hostel recognized/maintained by the institutions may be reimbursed as hostel fee, excluding mess, electricity, water charges, etc. A certificate to this effect is to be furnished through the Registrar/ Director/ Principal (Annexure - II). If Post Doctoral Fellow makes his/her own arrangements of accommodation, he/she may be entitled to draw HRA as per categorization of the cities by the Government of India. The Post Doctoral Fellow will submit a certificate for this purpose to the UGC for claiming HRA through the concerned University/Institution/College

6.7     PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC & ST Candidates

University Grants Commission  provides the award of 1000 PG Scholarships under the scheme of 'PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC&ST Candidates'  every year to undertake postgraduate level studies in professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy, etc on regular basis only.

Eligibility

1).  The candidate must have obtained graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the professional subjects  in a recognized University/Institution/College.

2).   Candidates pursuing postgraduate course in professional subjects by correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme.                   

3)    The upper age limit for male applicants is 45 years as on 1st July on the year of application, and 50 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.

6.8     Kerala State Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarship is applicable for the students from the families of below poverty line.

Eligibility Criteria:

·           Students who are studying in 1st year degree or PG courses in Government/Aided Arts and Science Colleges/ University departments can apply.

·           50% marks in their basic qualification is necessary.
